||DFE. A term used to describe the Recommended Dietary Allowance of folate. DFE accounts for the easier absorption of folate in supplements and fortified foods compared with folic acid found naturally in foods, which is absorbed only about half as well. One DFE = 1 microgram (μg) food folate = 0.6 μg folic acid from supplements and fortified foods.
