Apply Now to Attend!
The Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is accepting applications for the Mary Frances Picciano Dietary Supplement Research Practicum taking place June 10–12, 2020, on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland.

Approximately 100 individuals will be selected to participate. The deadline to apply is Monday, March 2, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

This 2.5-day practicum will provide a thorough overview and grounding on the issues, concepts, unknowns, and controversies about dietary supplements and supplement ingredients. It will also emphasize the importance of scientific investigation to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and value of these products for health promotion and disease prevention as well as how to carry out this type of research. It is an educational opportunity open to faculty, students, and practitioners with a serious interest in the subject.

The practicum is open to:

  • Full-time academic faculty, research practitioners, doctoral students, postdocs, and fellows in health-related disciplines such as nutrition, food science, pharmacology and pharmacognosy, exercise science and kinesiology, medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, and complementary and integrative health
  • Healthcare providers and scientists with a master’s degree or higher whose work involves research with dietary supplements
  • Master’s-level students in health-related programs
  • Students in professional schools such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing.

There is no cost to attend the practicum; however, room, board, and transportation expenses are the responsibility of each participant.
