Sanem Hosbas Coskun, Ph.D., joined the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) as a scientific consultant in 2020. She is a biochemist who supports the ODS Analytical Methods and Reference Materials Program.
Since 2016, Dr. Hosbas Coskun has focused on developing analytical methods and standard reference materials for the botanical dietary supplement community. To accomplish this goal, she is working on the quantitative and qualitative measurements of secondary metabolites in dietary supplement ingredients using advanced analytical techniques.
Dr. Hosbas Coskun’s main research interests focus on bioactivity-guided isolation and identification of natural compounds from traditional medicinal plants. In 2014, she began work as a researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, where she was involved in the development and application of robust and accurate standardized techniques for DNA damage and repair measurements in biological systems using a novel mass spectrometry-based methodology.
Dr. Hosbas Coskun received her B.Sc. in pharmacy from the University of Ankara School of Pharmacy and her M.Sc. in phytotherapy and Ph.D. in pharmacognosy from Gazi University in Turkey.
