Registration Open: Conference on Vitamin D in Primary Care Settings
The Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is sponsoring a conference titled, "Vitamin D: Moving Toward Evidence-based Decision Making in Primary Care," December 2---3, 2014, on the NIH main campus (Bethesda, MD). Also broadcast via webinar, the conference is cosponsored by 10 other federal agencies.
The conference will provide a forum to identify and discuss issues focused on evidence-based decision making for vitamin D in primary care settings----for example, screening for vitamin D status, interpreting laboratory measures, and determining interventions such as supplementation.
All interested persons are invited to attend, especially researchers, clinical educators, those who develop clinical recommendations, and health care providers. All participants must register in advance. There is no charge to attend. See the meeting website for more information and to register: https://events-support.com/events/Vitamin_D_Primary_Care.
NIH Request for Information Regarding Sex as a Biological Variable in Medical Research
NIH has formed a trans-NIH working group to develop policies related to considering sex as a biological variable in the design and analysis of NIH-funded research involving animals and cells. This Request for Information (RFI) seeks input from the research community and other interested stakeholders on this issue. NIH plans to ensure that sex and sex differences are examined in all aspects of biomedical research, not just in human clinical trials.
The RFI is available at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-14-128.html. Responses will be accepted through October 13.
