The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) was created by the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 and established in 1995 within the NIH Office of Disease Prevention (ODP). Since 2006 ODP and ODS have been located in the Office of the NIH Director in the Division of Program Coordination, Planning and Strategic Initiatives. NIH initiated a search for a new Director of ODS after the retirement in July 2018 of Dr. Paul Coates who served as Director for 19 successful years. A decision has now been made to pause the search and conduct a review of the activities for the office going forward.
